I participated in a sprint triathlon for the first time last summer and it was one of the most fun times I've ever had competing. I've been competing all my life in soccer, baseball, and intramural sports of all kinds. Never had I tackled a beast quite like this one. I had plenty of things stacked against me. I've never learned the "proper" way to swim (more like controlled drowning), I didn't have a top of the line road bike (only a hybrid bought from Academy), and I had done some running but never while previously exhausted. Honestly, I didn't know what I was getting myself into, but when by the time I crossed the finish line I had a blast and now I can't wait to do another one. To be honest, I wish I would have known about these races sooner which is why I take a personal interest in the camp we are hosting. Now I get the opportunity to help kids start early. I recommend these races and this whole new world of competition I've discovered to all adults and kids. If nothing else I recommend just trying it once. Maybe you'll find something healthy that you truly love to do. I know I did.
This is why as a Personal Trainer and the Wellness Director I am proud to announce that Crane Rehab Center is partnering with Kona Fitness Cafe to host a Youth Multi-Sport and Fitness Program! Kona Fitness Cafe's Rick and Jen have been coaching triathletes for years and we are lucky enough to help host a youth camp with them. These will be 8 week camps going year round and leading kids into races as a team. This camp will also have informational speakers and guests from Crane Rehab Center. This camp boasts some of the best Triathlon Coaches in New Orleans teaming up with some of the best Wellness Staff and Personal Trainers in the New Orleans Area. I just wish I was still a kid.
